THOMAS F. CASH PH.D.

Consultation Services

Over the past 25 years, my grants and contracts have largely pertained to research on the Psychology of Physical Appearance. Most recently, this work pertains to the assessment of the psychosocial effects of androgenetic alopecia and acne vulgaris. In particular, I develop and validate patient assessments (e.g., body image, treatment expectations, treatment outcomes) for the scientific purposes of:

  1. Understanding the psychosocial impact of appearance-altering conditions
(e.g., on body image and quality of life).
  2. Evaluating the effects of medical/surgical/psychosocial treatments of these conditions
    (e.g., in clinical trials).

These activities have been conducted as funded contracts through:

  • Old Dominion University, administered by the Old Dominion University Research Foundation (TCash@odu.edu).
  • Body Images Research Consulting (Body-Images@cox.net).
